Gold Dawg Railroad

Revolution TE Installation Photos, Page 5

I have two Alco S4s. One I wired to use the sound/power car. The second I installed a Revo receiver with LED lighting. I failed to document the installation so when the cab light burned out, I had the excuse to open it up and take some pictures.

I pulled the OEM main board and built a new build which I could install in the top of the body. The three wires from the left come from the receiver headlight controls. The white plugs go to the headlights. The bottom wires come from track power. Power goes to a full bridge rectifier, 5 volt regulator, resister and to the cab lights and front number board lights. The stock headlights were powered from this circuit board. I installed new Ultra Bright LED headlights and wired them to the receiver headlight controls via the new main board. I left the stock circuit board in place so I did not have to replace the number board lights. USA Trains uses a metal foil tape to control light seepage. Need to be careful not to let it short out any wires.
I used the optional Non PNP board with wire terminals. I had to file a notch into the board so it would fit between the post that had supported the stock main board. I use European style terminal strips for connections. Since USA Trains uses the con-240 connectors I make use of them in my installs. I attach them to the terminal strip and plug into the track power and motor power connectors.
Here is another look at the terminal strips I use. The male connector facing up will supply the power board in the main body with track power. I used a 3 pin connector between the Non PNP board headlight terminals and the body. You can see it on the right.
Having connectors between the body and chassis makes it a lot easier to take the loco apart than if I have to remove wires from the wiring terminals. I did not use the auxillary wiring harness for this install.  I put the link button under the chassis. I wrapped some servo tape around it and put it where it would be "pinched"  between the fuel tanks and floor when I tightened the fuel tanks. Holds well.
